You probably have a textbook laying around some where? Do you even use it? Do you even know what’s in it or what its about? It seems textbooks are getting obsolete because now you can find everything on the internet faster and easier. When is the last time you looked in a physical paper dictionary. Probably a long time ago. Everything is moving slowly into the digital age. A couple weeks ago, Britannica, the worlds best encyclopedia maker, officially announced that it will stop selling physical paper encyclopedias. All of Britannica’s encyclopedias will be only accessed through the internet with an account. How amazing is that. If you just think about it for a little, if you were to find a meaning of a word, where would you go right now? A paper dictionary or the internet dictionary. Britannica clearly sees the opportunities and potential of posting online. Its much faster, easier, and easier to be updated by the company.

I think that textbooks will be affected in the same way. If you’ve been keeping up in the news, some schools are using iPads for textbooks. That’s amazing! This is actually better than a textbook because it has more content and it just makes reading and learning a better experience. Also the content on those iPads can be easily updated and produced. I think that this is a really good change going from physical to digital. If you take a look through the company’s point of view, they don’t need to print and waste tons of paper for a book that’s going to be used only maybe for a couple of years because its going to get outdated. An iPad, for example, can be updated without anything physically, everything is digital. This makes everything easier and more environment friendly.

Also, take a look at eBooks. eBooks are becoming a big success and there getting more and more popular. Almost all the mobile companies are thinking big about eBooks, especially Apple and Amazon. I think that eBooks was a successful transition from physical paper books. It makes reading a book easier and more enjoyable.

What do you think about the world moving to digital? Will this have some consequences in the future? Leave a comment. I would like to read your opinions.
